Pressure testing asks whether a joint contains. Flexure testing asks whether it survives being moved, which is a different failure and usually the one that happens. ARP 1185 sets out both the standard flexure method and the S-N method, the latter producing a stress-versus-cycles relationship rather than a single pass mark, so the result tells a designer where the knee is, instead of only that one particular load was survived. Both are on our accredited scope.
Accredited clauses
| Clause | Test | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 4.0 | S-N flexure, hydraulic tubing, joints and fittings | Produces a stress-versus-cycles relationship rather than a single result, so a designer can read the margin at their own load. |
| 4.0 | Standard flexure, hydraulic tubing, joints and fittings | The fixed-condition method, for qualifying against a stated requirement. |
