Pressure testing

Hydrostatic, pneumatic, burst and cracking-pressure testing on connections, valves and assemblies - to 58,000 psi.

Proof and burst run on the same bench and both are reported: the pressure at which behaviour changed, not a pass mark. The margin between a part that holds at 1.5× its rating and one that holds at 4× is what a design review needs.

What we run

Hydrostatic pressure testing

58,000 psi

Water-based proof and proof-to-destruction testing of fittings, valves and tube assemblies. The medium is incompressible, so a failure releases very little stored energy - which is why it is the default for high-pressure work.

Pneumatic pressure testing

20,000 psi

Gas-based testing to 20,000 psi, for parts whose service medium is a gas and where a liquid test would not represent the duty.

Burst pressure testing

SCADA bench

Pressure raised to failure on the SCADA multi-test bench, with the whole curve logged rather than a single end reading, so the mode of failure is visible and not just its pressure.

Cracking pressure testing

0.5 kg

The pressure at which a check or relief element first opens, measured to 0.5 kg - the figure that decides whether a non-return valve protects a line or throttles it.

Standards applied

ASTM F1387

Performance of piping and tubing mechanically attached fittings. The standard our own connections are qualified to, and the one whose hydrostatic and burst requirements a customer part is most often run against.
