Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Structural integrity and mechanical behaviour validated virtually before production: stress distribution, deformation, vibration, thermal loading and fatigue life simulated to ensure long-term operational reliability.

As per project requirements, 2D and 3D meshes are generated using higher-order hexahedral and tetrahedral elements. Design validation is performed in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 2, Part 5 (Design by Analysis) and other equivalent international standards. By defining accurate material properties and calculating allowable stress limits using specified factors of safety, we evaluate structural integrity, checking both stress and deflection levels prior to prototype manufacturing. Once the design is confirmed safe across all operating criteria, we proceed with physical prototyping.

The same method validates Fluid Controls' own products, and is offered as a study on yours: for a new design, or for a system already in place that you want analysed or compared with another.

What we can show

  • Performance criteria

Structural integrity validated against ASME Section VIII, Div 2 (Part 5): equivalent stress (von Mises), deflection limits, primary and secondary stresses, dynamic vibration, fatigue life and factor of safety evaluation.

  • Systems already in place

Reverse-engineering and performance verification of operational equipment: assessing stress distributions, deflection and code compliance in existing installations to troubleshoot failures or compare against alternative designs.

  • Then proven on the bench

Once a design satisfies all numerical stress and deflection limits on screen, physical prototypes undergo hydrostatic, burst and mechanical testing in our NABL-accredited laboratory to validate the finite element model.
